The University of Helsinki is among the leading research universities in the world and the most
versatile institution of scholarship, education and intellectual stimulation in Finland. In addition to
its 11 faculties, the University has independent institutes.
The Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry promotes the sustainable use of natural resources and
human wellbeing through scientific research and researchbased
teaching. The Faculty’s key areas of education and research include food science, consumer science, agriculture, forestry,
environmental sciences and biotechnology. The Faculty has 3,200 degree students and
employs 500 experts in the field. At the beginning of 2010 the Faculty will be reorganised such
that the present nine departments will merge to form four new departments, namely the
Department of Food and Environmental Sciences, the Department of Agricultural Sciences, the
Department of Forest Sciences and the Department of Economics and Management. The
Department of Food and Environmental Sciences will include the present Department of Food
Technology and the Department of Applied Chemistry and Microbiology.
The Department of Applied Chemistry and Microbiology at the Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry of the University of Helsinki invites applications for a Professorship in Food Safety.
The appointment will be for a fixed term of five years. The field of the post has been defined as the chemical safety of foods.
The duties of a professor include conducting and supervising scientific research, following developments in the field, examining theses and attending to duties specified in Section 19, Subsection
1 of the Decree on the Qualification Requirements and
Duties of Staff in Institutions of Higher Education (Decree No 309/1993).
The above Decree provides for the qualification requirements and the Finnish and
Swedish language requirement for professorships.

The salary for the present post will be based on levels 810
of the demands level chart
for teaching and research personnel in the salary system of Finnish universities. In
addition, the appointee will be paid a salary component based on personal
performance.
